Maybe it’s the time to celebrate 30 queries! I officially hit my book query mark, albeit, long after I intended. That’s okay… It was about half way through that I realized the query in and of itself was this big thing, right? It’s this big, italicized thing that I had just sort of fallen into without much thought.
So then I started to think.
And I realized, upon thinking, that since querying was this big italicized thing, I should probably change up what I was doing. Become a little more involved in the process. Upon looking at my rejections, you can see where my querying changed.
While the book I’m querying is serious in nature (much like life), it’s not at all serious (much like life can be). Quirky is not a word that people want to necessarily read. It can be a major turnoff. Especially if their weeding-out-formula is set to spot said word.
Agents are probably interested in an actual personality in their queries, and even now, my query letter doesn’t necessarily represent me. I can be professional and dry, but my actual personality is probably more reflected by the book that I’ve written, not the letters that I write. In my letter, I’m now trying to alert the reader that my book is not at all written like my letter! Phew.
The hubs says I should query my children’s book, but that’s a hard pass for me. This summer, I’m soliciting help from my son to finally draw the pictures for the book. The plan is to draw the pictures in June, finalize them in July, and self-publish the book by August. Just in time to watch the Perseid meteor showers… (This is what the book is about!)
Blogs… They’re still asleep for the time being.
Podcast News… My friend and I are moving forward with planning it out. I’m feeling like this venture is becoming a very real, very plausible facet of our collective. Wahoo!
Bodywork… I’m working on finalizing the Spring yoga video and posting it.
Personal… Second Grade is in full review mode, and the kid’s final presentation/project is starting to manifest.
